Oritse Femi to headline July Afropolitan Vibes concert

Organisers of the monthly Lagos concert Afropolitan Vibes have announced Oritse Femi as headliner for their July edition.

Oritse Femi, who scored a hit with the song ‘Double Wahala’, will be joined by reggae artist General Pype and the Chocolate City artist Koker. All three artists will entertain attendees at the concert’s usual venue at Freedom Park in Lagos on Friday 15 July.

Last month at the concert saw performances by pop artist Sean Tizzle, St Janet, and the German singer of contemporary Nigerian pop songs Niki Tall.
This month’s performers were announced late with the organisers needing to issue a note on social media on Monday, four days before the event proper, assuring its followers that even with “the line-up confirmation still to come…the party will happen.”
About 24 hours later, the notice of headliners was made public. “Come and join the party at Freedom Park this Friday,” read the concert’s Facebook page. “We are very pleased to announce that joining Bantu at Afropolitan Vibes this Friday July 15th are: afropop singer Oritse Femi, dancehall/reggae singer General Pype, afropop artist Koker, female drum & vocal ensemble Squad 1 Productions.”

Starting off as a free concert, Afropolitan Vibes has now set an entry fee at 1500 naira ($5). The inaugural paid concert took place on Friday 20 May, with eighties star Mike Okri performing alongside rapper Skales and singer Aramide.
If that edition saw the performance of old tunes courtesy of Okri, July’s performers will treat attendees to entirely contemporary songs. With Oritse Femi expected to perform ‘Double Wahala’ from his MSN album. Koker’s recent hit song ‘Kole Werk’ will be expected as will General Pype’s ‘Champion’, which was released in 2009 as a tribute to the Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt.
